With an 87 year track record of dedicated service, the Ammembal Subba Rao Pai Memorial Fund is by far one of the oldest GSB charitable organisations active today.  A non-profit organisation, registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, the Fund was started in the year 1913 by a group of socially committed people to perpetuate the memory of Ammembal Subba Rao Pai(1852-1909), the visionary-educationist who founded the century old Canara High School, Mangalore, (website under construction) the alma mater to over five generations of both GSBs and non-GSBs. 

The prophetic words of Appeal by Sri.Ammembal Subba Rao Pai – “for helping the poor youth of our community who are specially bright to obtain higher general education and special education in technical subjects such as Medicine, Engineering etc.,………Every body receiving help from the Fund will be expected to refund the amount of aid he receives with interest.  In this way, not only will the Fund grow in course of time, but many a poor boy will be enabled to finish his education and earn distinction for himself and the community to which he belongs” – gave birth to this Fund, whose chief activity has been to help deserving students – both male and female – of the minority GSB community to pursue higher education.  The fund has sought to achieve this goal through its twin tools of financial assistance and costly text book lending facilities.  Every year more and more people are coming forward to support the Management in realising still more fully the purpose for which it was started four score and seven years ago.
